Projects

Below is a partial listing of projects we run (Please notice some projects have links to their respective pages). Many of these we run to raise money for our 5 state-level Priority projects.

Goodfellows - Since 1934, we've treated needy children to a magical Christmas experience: a banquet of turkey and all the trimmings, a visit with Santa Claus, and a $125 shopping spree for needed clothing and shoes.

Brookhill Steeplechase - For an entire year we organize and plan a one day horse racing event.  This event is on the NSAs (National Steeplechase Association) spring race ticket.  It attracts close to 20,000 people every year and close to fifty jockeys and horses to compete in a day of steeple chasing. Members that need directions to the site can check this map. (requires Adobe Acrobat)

Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation - For three intense days, high school sophomores interact with business, education, government, and community leaders to probe issues like the role of government, the future of the United States, entrepreneurship and leadership development.

Haunted House- We build a haunted house in the fall and run it for two weeks around Halloween every year.

Pet Trek-We host a day of fun in which you can bring your dog and walk him/her in a park.  We award prizes for the most original costume, smartest dog, fastest dog, best trick, etc.  We also have give away prizes for those who raise the most money.   All proceeds benefit the Wake County SPCA.

Bid for Bachelors-We host an auction and bid off twenty of Raleigh's finest men and date packages  to the highest bidder.  We also offer items for silent auction as well.  All proceeds for this event go to the Duke Cancer Center.

Big Air Mountain Bike Race-We host a series of mountain bike races that last one day and are designed for both women and men of all ages.  All proceeds go to the Jaycee Burn Center.

HOPE- We have adopted a underprivileged public housing project in down town Raleigh.   We provide many things for this group of people including: mentoring for the kids, GED classes for the adults, reading programs, social events for the residents, and many others.

ID-A-Child - We sponsor an identification program for local children, providing a photograph and other vital information for each child for use if a child disappears.

Boys Home - The NC Jaycees support a cottage at the Lake Waccamaw Boys Home. In support of this effort we make visitations, do fundraisers (such as a recent cookbook) and bring the boys up to Raleigh to particpate in events such as our Haunted House.

Fuel Drive - We chop wood, bag coal, and make deliveries to needy local families so they can heat their homes during the cold winter months.

Turkey Shoot-We run a turkey shoot booth at the North Carolina State Fair every year.  What is a Turkey Shoot?  Line up twelve people in front of twelve paper targets and give them all guns full of buck shot.  The closest one to the center of the target walks away with a turkey.

Beach Trip-A large group of Jaycees migrate  down to Myrtle Beach every year during the middle of summer.  Beach and Jaycees... you can guess what happens!  ....a lot of fun!

Ski Trip-A decent size group of Jaycees head north up to Snow Shoe every year in the middle of winter for a weekend of skiing and..... hmmm and what ever else happens! ....did I forget to mention fun again!

And many more! - From fundraisers for the Cystic Fybrosis and the Mission Inn Foundation, to hands-on work in public parks, or even helping children at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind find Easter Eggs, the Raleigh Jaycees touch hundreds of lives each year.
